Applied Materials has flipped the switch on Austin's largest business solar array, News 8 Austin reports.
Applied's President and CEO issued the company a challenge to reduce its environmental impact by 50,000 tons of carbon equivalents by 2012.
The solar panels will eliminate 54,390 pounds of CO2 emissions and generate more than 33,769 kilowatt-hours of energy. The solar arrays generate 20 kilowatts an hour.
In March, the company announced it would install the largest solar power installation on an existing corporate facility in the U.S. The plan calls for over 1.9 megawatts of solar power generation capability at its research campus in Sunnyvale, California.
