Apple has announced a multi-year project with World Wildlife Fund that aims to protect as much as 1 million acres of responsibly managed working forests in China that provide fiber for pulp, paper and wood products.
Apple has set a goal to achieve a net-zero impact on the world’s supply of sustainable virgin fiber.
The new announcement, made over the weekend, comes on the heels of Apple’s news that it is working with environmental nonprofit The Conservation Fund to buy more than 36,000 acres of forests in Maine and North Carolina. The partners say these forests will be harvested sustainably and used in Apple’s packaging.
Apple also announced its intent to expand its renewable energy projects to manufacturing facilities in China.
