Ambitious Goals for The Boulder Valley SD

district school bus Energy ManageThe Rocky Mountain Institute reports that The Boulder Valley School District (BVSD) in Colorado aims to make its 50-plus school buildings net-zero for energy and to cut 80 percent in greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. The story points out that more than 70 percent of the school system’s 4.8 million square feet are more than 30 years old, so the project is particularly ambitious.

The goal, according to the story, is to not only cut energy use in the school district itself but to serve as a model for others in Colorado and across the United States. The BVSD has had a sustainability management system in place since 2009.

Last month, the Berryessa Union (CA) School districted invested $11 million in solar panels. The installations will provide 80 percent to 90 percent of the electricity to the sites it servers.
