The utility American Electric Power (AEP) began this week to solicit information from companies interested in jointly undertaking solar projects with its Ohio subsidiary.
Columbus Business First reported that AEP has a commitment in place with the Sierra Club to build 900 MW of wind and solar projects in the state. That agreement was a big part of Sierra’s acceptance of AEP’s income guarantee plan, the story said.
The request for information is aimed at companies interested in developing solar projects of 5MW or more. The deal would be that AEP would enter a long term commitment to buy solar power the partner, which could own as much as half of the project, the story said.
Ohio utility FirstEnergy has filed with the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio for permission to modify its Electric Security Plan. The reason it wants to approve ESP IV is to protect customers from retail price increases.
