The Adobe Co. expects to generate up to 50,000 kilowatt hours of electricity annually with its new wind turbines at its headquarters.The 20 upright Windspire turbines set atop a parking garage at the San Jose, Calif., headquarters of the software maker.
Because of their placement, they take advantage of wind patterns created by adjacent buildings, resulting in average wind speeds of 14 miles per hour, reports Inhabitat.
Each turbine can generate up to 2,500 kWh a year, reports MacWorld.
The turbines will be connected to the building's electricity later this month, reports WALB.
In the past, Adobe spent $1.4 million on building energy efficiency upgrades, an effort that saves the company $1.2 million annually and brings in almost $400,000 per year in energy rebates from PG&E and the city.
