73% of Americans Look to Technology to Solve US Problems

To help the United States achieve long-term success, investing in innovation and advanced technology is the key, according to 73 percent of Americans surveyed in March by The Harris Poll.

If America takes a leadership role in investment in hybrid vehicles and alternative fuels, the nation's auto industry may survive, 71 percent of the 2,355 people in the survey said, according to a press release.

If businesses used more video conferencing, they could cut travel costs, 71 percent of those polled said.

Here are some other results of the poll:

• 67 percent of Americans think the U.S. should use technology to produce "green products and services."
• 28 percent strongly or very strongly liked the idea of using GPS technology to most effectively plan vehicles routes in real time.
• 27 percent like the idea of controlling their home systems and appliances from a mobile device.

A survey late last year conducted by Ruder Finn Insights reveals that despite lower fuel prices and outdated perceptions of hybrids, two-thirds of the 500 Americans surveyed said they were likely to purchase a hybrid vehicle within the next three years.
