This year is among the hottest years ever recorded on Earth, according to the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) in the U.S., TheDailyGreen.com reports.
Although there is a slight difference with WMO and NOAA estimates, both agreed that the decade spanning from 1998 to 2008 has seen global warming at an unprecedented pace.
According to a NASA study, the most dramatic affect of the abnormally hot year was seen in the Arctic, where more ice melted than in any year other than 2007.
In May, a report released by researchers at Tufts University revealed that global warming could cost the U.S. $3.8 trillion per year by 2100.
