“GridLink solves one of the most critical barriers to EV fast charging—limited grid capacity—through its battery-integrated, bidirectional architecture. The result is scalable, rapid deployment in previously infeasible locations with measurable impact.”
Executive OverviewXCharge North America develops battery-integrated EV charging solutions designed for the constraints of the North American grid. Its flagship product, GridLink, combines DC fast charging, energy storage, and bidirectional energy capabilities into a single, infrastructure-grade system. The solution enables high-power charging in locations where traditional chargers cannot be deployed due to grid limitations, cost, or timeline constraints. By reducing reliance on utility upgrades and enabling faster, more flexible installation, GridLink expands access to EV charging while improving grid efficiency, resilience, and overall infrastructure scalability. A solar-canopied parking lot installation of XCharge North America’s GridLink system delivers high-power EV charging without requiring major grid upgrades.

Awards Insider FeatureChallengeEV adoption in North America is accelerating, but charging infrastructure deployment remains constrained by grid capacity. Traditional DC fast charging requires high-voltage connections and often triggers costly utility upgrades, long interconnection timelines, and complex permitting processes. In many cases, these upgrades can take years and require significant capital investment, making projects financially unviable—particularly in rural, site-constrained, or underserved areas. As a result, charging infrastructure is unevenly distributed, concentrated in locations with strong grid access while leaving gaps in high-need corridors and communities. Businesses and site hosts face high upfront costs, uncertain deployment timelines, and operational risk tied to energy pricing and peak demand charges. The core challenge is not charger performance—it is enabling fast charging within the practical limits of existing grid infrastructure. InnovationGridLink addresses this challenge by integrating battery storage directly into the charging system, allowing energy to be stored during off-peak periods and delivered at high power when needed. Each unit supports up to 300 kW of DC fast charging while operating on lower-capacity grid connections, eliminating the need for major utility upgrades in many deployments. The system’s dual-input (208V/480V) compatibility expands installation flexibility across diverse site conditions, while its bidirectional capability enables participation in demand response and distributed energy resource (DER) programs. This architecture transforms the charger from a passive load into an active grid asset. By combining charging, storage, and grid interaction in a single UL-compliant unit, GridLink represents an architectural shift from infrastructure dependent on grid expansion to infrastructure that works within existing grid constraints. ImpactGridLink has been deployed at more than 50 sites across the United States and Canada, demonstrating scalable, real-world implementation. In 2024, these systems delivered over 1.1 GWh of energy, reflecting sustained utilization across commercial, fleet, and public charging environments. The solution reduces required grid capacity by an estimated 50–80% compared to conventional DC fast charging, enabling deployment in locations that would otherwise be infeasible. It also lowers operating costs for site hosts by up to 30% through off-peak energy management and demand charge reduction. In addition, GridLink systems contributed to avoiding approximately 2.91 million pounds of CO₂ emissions in 2024 by reducing reliance on carbon-intensive peak power. These outcomes demonstrate measurable improvements in deployment speed, cost efficiency, emissions reduction, and grid resilience. ![]() Company SnapshotFounded: 2015 Headquarters: Kyle, Texas, USA Focus: Infrastructure-grade EV charging solutions Website: https://www.xcharge.us/ Impact Metrics1.1 GWh delivered (2024): Over 50 deployments across the U.S. and Canada
