Osceola County District 1 Commissioner Peggy Choudhry recently celebrated the groundbreaking of the highly anticipated Westside Technology Park, a cutting-edge development designed to merge recreational and educational opportunities with environmental conservation. The park, situated on 40 acres of preserved nature habitat at the intersection of Westside Boulevard and Funie Steed Road, represents a significant investment of nearly $2 million and is set to become a cornerstone of community engagement in the Four Corners area.
The Westside Technology Park is located within Lake Wales Ridge's rare Florida Scrub habitat, a 100-mile stretch of ancient sand dunes home to diverse and specialized flora and fauna. Recognizing the site’s ecological importance, the county acquired the land in 2021 for $2.9 million, significantly below its appraised value, ensuring its preservation for public use and education.
By integrating Low Impact Design (LID) practices, the development minimizes its environmental footprint while maintaining the area’s natural beauty. The park’s design includes sustainable features such as solar-powered amenities and educational tools that allow visitors to learn about the unique environment.

Future additions aim to enhance the park’s appeal further, including real-time wildlife observation through webcams and interactive displays to connect visitors with the natural world.
“This is going to be the very first Tech Park in Osceola County,” said Commissioner Peggy Choudhry. “The Tech Park will incentivize the kids to bring their devices to a physical location instead of a virtual one, not just to swing or to play, but also to use that technology to learn about the natural world around them in real-time.”
The Westside Technology Park reflects a broader commitment by Osceola County to invest in sustainable growth and high-quality public spaces. With $1.75 million allocated from the county’s 2024 budget for its construction, the project exemplifies how innovation and environmental preservation can coexist to serve a rapidly expanding community.
