PricewaterhouseCoopers tops Computerworld's third annual ranking of Top Green-IT users in part by cutting its carbon footprint 20 percent in two years.
Computerworld's Top Green-IT Organizations awards rank the top 12 IT departments that are reducing power demand and using technology to improve energy efficiency and the top 12 IT vendors. This year, Fujitsu America is ranked number one among IT vendors. Computerworld's sister publication also serves up the top 12 green IT tools.
The top 12 winners were selected from a group of nearly 100 applicants, with many of the winners long-time leaders in the green-IT movement, says Computerworld. Many of them have moved from low-hanging fruit projects such as videoconferencing and printer management to more challenging projects such as large-scale data center migration at Northrop Grumman, or Citigroup's effort to relocate network switches to reduce the use of copper and cut power consumption by as much as 50 percent.
