As energy markets evolve, LS Power is broadening its focus beyond power generation and transmission assets, adding customer-facing services that align with grid modernization and decarbonization goals.
With roots extending over five decades, OPTERRA brings deep experience in delivering comprehensive energy solutions to public sector organizations. Its portfolio includes more than 9,000 completed projects for municipal governments, federal agencies, and educational institutions across North America.
Recent initiatives include an integrated energy and water savings program in Milpitas, California, projected to save the city more than $30 million, and the deployment of 72,000 modernized streetlights in Washington, D.C. The Chula Vista Elementary School District also partnered with OPTERRA to install 8.1 MW of solar capacity across 48 sites, adding backup microgrid capability to improve resilience.
The company’s broader technical accomplishments encompass 375 MW of installed solar capacity, 24 operational microgrid projects, and over $3 billion in guaranteed energy cost savings. Clients span a range of public entities, including Broward County, FL, and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
According to LS Power CEO Paul Segal, the acquisition reflects a strategic move to address growing U.S. energy demands with a full-spectrum approach—combining generation, transmission, and now energy efficiency and demand-side management services.
Courtney Jenkins, CEO of OPTERRA, stated that the company will focus on scaling innovative energy and decarbonization solutions tailored to public sector needs, enabled by LS Power’s financial and operational backing.
