The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has reestablished the Secretary of Energy Advisory Board (SEAB) under the Federal Advisory Committee Act., which was eliminated under the Bush Administration. Serving as an independent advisory committee to Energy Secretary Steven Chu, the twelve-member board is comprised of scientists, business executives, academics and former government officials.
The Board will provide advice and recommendations to the Secretary on the department's research, economic and national security policy, educational issues, and operational issues. SEAB reports directly to the Secretary of Energy.
The board is expected to meet twice a year and at other times as needed. Subcommittees are also expected to be organized under SEAB.
