Here is a roundup of recent contract and supply wins focused on energy efficiency and greenhouse gas (GHG) reductions.

Siemens Government Services (SGS) recently received a $38.5-million task order award from the General Services Administration (GSA) to implement energy-efficiency improvements at 39 federal government facilities across the Greater Southwest Region (Region 7). The Department of Energy (DOE) Energy Savings Performance Contract (ESPC) will be managed and delivered from SGS through Siemens Industry's Building Technologies Division.

During the 26-month implementation period, Siemens will deliver renewable energy and building automation systems including solar photovoltaic generating technologies and heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC), advanced irrigation and lighting control systems. Water-conserving plumbing and energy-efficient lighting fixtures, heating and cooling system upgrades and building envelope improvements such as thermal pane windows and insulation will also be installed during the construction phase.

When the construction phase is complete, the project's list of improvements are expected to yield about $1.7 million in guaranteed energy savings in the program's first year, an amount projected to increase to an aggregate $2.6 million annually under the savings performance targets set by the individual performance contracts in Region 7.

Retrofitting and building upgrade projects are now underway in several facilities and are scheduled to finish in October 2012.

Also in the energy-efficiency arena, Transamerica Pyramid Properties has contracted to deploy EnerNOC's SiteSMART data-driven energy efficiency application and DemandSMART demand response application at the Pyramid Center in downtown San Francisco

EnerNOC's suite of energy management applications are designed to address the full lifecycle of an organization's energy use. While DemandSMART manages peak use, SiteSMART focuses on finding energy efficiency opportunities. Together, the two solutions are expected to deliver $50,000 in annual energy savings for the owner.

The deployment of SiteSMART is funded through a bi-lateral agreement between EnerNOC and the Pyramid Center's utility, Pacific Gas & Electric, which pays for the installation of all metering equipment and the first year of data analytics.

DemandSMART deployment at the Pyramid Center is cost-free, as it is for all customers in EnerNOC's network.

Also aimed at improving energy efficiency, Butterball, the largest producer of turkey products in the United States, has selected EPS' xChange Point real-time energy management and carbon reduction solution for its manufacturing facility in Mt. Olive, N.C., to analyze current energy consumption and carbon emissions, identify areas for the greatest improvement, and design a strategy to increase overall plant energy efficiency.

Butterball chose the EPS solution to help the company monitor and reduce its energy use and carbon emissions and meet its overall sustainability targets.

This software as a service solution provides an enterprise-wide view of sustainability and production metrics that can help reduce costs while improving sustainability at facilities across the enterprise.

Tetra Tech has been awarded a five-year, $19.7 million contract with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) landfill methane outreach program, aimed at reducing methane emissions from landfills by encouraging recovery and beneficial use of landfill gas as an energy source, reports Waste Management World.

Working with the EPA's Office of Air and Radiation, Climate Change Division, Tetra Tech will provide technical support for a wide variety of landfill program activities in the United States and internationally. The company also will help EPA conduct feasibility assessments, review policies and analyze markets, support tracking and reporting programs, develop emissions inventory protocols, conduct training and outreach, and support technology transfer and demonstration projects, among other activities.
