Eleven General Motors facilities have been accorded Energy Star certification by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. The threshold for Energy Star is to perform better than 75 percent of similar buildings nationwide and to meet efficiency levels set by the EPA, according to the press release.
The accreditation was given to customer care and after sale facilities in Michigan, Colorado, California, West Virginia and Tennessee. The release details the varied ways in which the facilities achieve the levels of efficiency necessary to be granted Energy Star status.
IT innovation offices in Arizona, Georgia and Texas also were given the honor. These facilities ranked on average 43 percent below the median national average for energy use, according to General Motors.
GM said in December that its plant in Arlington, TX, eventually will be more than half powered by wind.
