WaterStart has launched its Channels for Innovation website, a web-based platform that offers large water consumers and management agencies the knowledge and tools to help them evaluate and understand water innovation. Strategic resources and expertise of members of WaterStart’s network are meant to help global communities pinpoint the next steps for water conservation and sustainability, the organization says.
WaterStart is a water technology incubator based at the Desert Research Institute (DRI) campus in Nevada. The organization brings together strategic resources and expertise, and connects water management agencies, technology companies, and policymakers in order to “spur positive growth in the water sector,” WaterStart says. The Channels website offers access to information and lessons-learned from WaterStart water technology pilot programs with case studies, audio files, and other content. It also fosters connections between water technology companies and large water-consumers. The Channels platform is an additional means for WaterStart to “involve more people in our innovation process,” says executive director Nate Allen. “With access to this new platform, we can reach a broader audience of both small and international water consumers and management agencies who will benefit from the priorities we’re focused on and the pilots we are conducting.”Pilot projects include, for example:
- MGM Resorts International is working with Apana to apply water management system technology at the Bellagio to examine patterns of water use and to identify any hidden water waste on the site and its prominent fountains;
- Southern Nevada Water Authority is working with an Israeli company, WellToDo, to implement a pilot program using an innovative approach to address the groundwater nitrate issue;
- Riventa’s Freeflow technology is being used to optimize water distribution and to evaluate the performance and efficiency of Southern Nevada Water Authority’s water pumps.
