Shell has formed a partnership with Sparkfund and GridPoint to launch a new offering called Shell Energy Inside. This subscription approach to smart buildings combines technologies such as HVAC, lighting, energy storage, electric vehicle charging, and building controls with retail power supply and demand response, the companies say.

The Shell Energy Inside bundled solution is part of Shell New Energies, the company’s division for low carbon solutions. It uses Sparkfund’s SparkOS subscription engine as well as GridPoint Energy Manager, which is GridPoint’s controls and analytics platform.

Available to all commercial, industrial and municipal customers in North America, Shell Energy Inside aims to redefine how commercial energy solutions are delivered.

“This offering enables us to help businesses meet their cost, sustainability, and resiliency goals,” said Brian Davis, vice president of energy solutions at Shell. “Today’s announcement is in line with our strategy to partner with leading companies to deliver more and cleaner energy solutions to new and existing customers.”

Shell created the New Energies division in 2016, and says the company plans to invest $1 billion to $2 billion annually in new and fast-growing energy industry segments through 2020. The division focuses on new fuels for transport like biofuels and hydrogen, and power from electricity generation.

According to the Shell Energy Transition Report, the company anticipates selling oil and gas in the near-term while preparing their portfolio to move into lower-carbon energy.

“This is a historic moment, with one of the largest energy entities in the world working to reimagine the future of energy and energy services,” said Sparkfund CEO Pier LaFarge.
