Con Edison has announced it will add to its incentives for commercial and industrial customers that make HVAC upgrades. The enhanced incentives come in the form of two programs.

The first, the Prescriptive Rebate Program, offers cash incentives for the installation of standard energy-efficient equipment, including HVAC such as furnaces, boilers and chillers.

The second option offers incentives for custom upgrades of $0.16 per kilowatt hour saved plus an additional $600 for each kilowatt of energy reduction, according to bisnow.com. These HVAC upgrades will also benefit from Early Replacement and Extended Life offerings, designed to encourage owners to replace outdated equipment with more efficient models before they break down.

Con Ed officials hope the incentives will encourage owners to choose more efficient equipment.

Con Edison’s Commercial and Industrial Energy Efficiency Program is for properties averaging peak demand over 100 kilowatts. All large commercial customers, including office buildings, schools and hospitals can benefit from the incentives. Multifamily residential buildings are covered by a separate program.

Con Ed has long been a proponent of energy efficiency. In April 2017, the utility signed two major energy savings performance contracts (one with Veterans Affairs Mid-Atlantic Health Care Network and one with the US Department of Labor’s Mine and Safety Health Administration.

The company is also a vocal advocate of electric vehicle charging stations. In April, Con Ed announced it wanted to place at least 100 publicly available electric vehicle charging stations on the streets of New York and 500 chargers in customers’ homes in test programs. Con Edison is coordinating with the City of New York through the Department of Transportation, the Department of Citywide Administrative Services, and the Mayor’s Office of Sustainability.
