This week, AB InBev announced it is taking a step to let all of its consumer know its beer has been brewed using 100% renewable energy by incorporating a renewable energy symbol on its product.
Beginning in spring 2018, the symbol will appear on the label of every Budweiser brewed in the United States — the first country where the beer will be brewed using 100% renewable electricity. The US electricity is sourced from the Thunder Ranch Wind Farm in Oklahoma, which is powered by Enel Green Power. The label will then roll out to additional markets as the company reaches 100% renewable electricity in their Budweiser brewing operations.
Budweiser unveiled the symbol at an event at the World Economic Forum this month, inviting other brands to adopt the symbol and celebrate renewable electricity use as a way to tackle climate change. Budweiser is encouraging other brands to use the symbol on any product that is made using 100% renewable electricity.
“To brew the perfect beer we need the highest quality natural ingredients,” said AB InBev Chief Sustainability Officer, Tony Milikin on ab-inbev.com. “This is why we’re working to ensure a thriving, sustainable environment for the next 100 years and beyond.”
We spoke to Brian Perkins, Global VP at Budweiser, who said: “We know that climate change is an important issue for consumers, but they aren’t sure how their everyday actions can make a difference. The renewable electricity symbol can show consumers that their purchasing choices can have a positive impact.”
Budweiser is working alongside a number of NGOs and with Accenture to develop a process and guidelines to encourage other brands to adopt the symbol. The beer giant is currently working towards its RE100 commitment to source 100% renewable electricity worldwide by 2025.
