Easter Seals Hawaii Enters Into 20-year Power Purchase Agreement

by | Jun 9, 2017

In an effort to offset high local electricity prices, Easter Seals Hawaii has entered into a 20-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with EnSync Energy Systems, a developer of distributed energy resource systems and internet of energy control platforms.

The project consists of a ground-mounted 122-kilowat solar panel installation located at the Easter Seal’s Kapolei Napuakea Service Center.

“Non-profits are always struggling to find ways to lower operating costs in Hawaii, so Easter Seals is thrilled to harness the abundant sunshine here and use it to lower our operational costs for the long term,” said Ron Brandvold, CEO of Easter Seals Hawaii.

“We deeply appreciate the energy community helping Easter Seals be sustainable while stabilizing our costs,” said Michael Hulser, the Chairman of the Board for Easter Seals Hawaii.

Construction on the project is expected to be completed by the end of 2017.

Hawaii’s high energy prices have inspired local business, organizations and residents to seek alternative power methods. The Hawaii Food Bank recently installed a rooftop solar energy system that is expected to save the nonprofit $2.1 million over the next 25 years. And in April, several electric companies in the state announced that they would add capacity to its customer grid supply program to allow more rooftop solar systems to interconnect to the grid.
