Soraa, which produces gallium-nitride on gallium-nitride (GaN on GaN) LEDs, said that it is the first company with a complete line of lamps that are certified under California’s JA8-2016-E standard.

The law, which is part of California’s new Title 24 lighting standard, will be a requirement for new builds and retrofits beginning on January 1, 2017. The line of LEDs range from MR16s to parabolic aluminized reflector lights (PARs), according to the press release.

The new standard mandates that LEDs have a color rendering index (CRI) of 90+,  deep red (R9) rendering greater than 50 and a stroboscopic flicker of less than 30 percent. They must dim below 10 percent and have a color lamp consistency within a 3McA ellipse.

Soraa says its lamps exceed the new rules by offering a CRI of 95 and an R9 of 95. They dim as low as 1 percent, have very low flicker and offer color consistency within 3McA.
