Thrift Store USA has installed a 130 kilowatt solar power system atop its Norfolk, VA, store.
The panels, according to WTKR, are saving the organization almost $800 per week. Owner Rob Giroux is quoted in the story as saying that a recent heat wave only cost an extra $10, even though the lights and air conditioning were running 24/7.
The story says that Giroux used a low interest loan for the project, which cost $200,000. It is, according to installer Convert Energy, the largest privately owned solar system in the Hampton Roads area. Virginia is the 39th in the country in solar capacity per person. Giroux said a goal is to inspire people to use solar.
Idaho’s first commercial solar farm, which consists of 174,800 panels, has opened south of Boise.
