Portland, ME, is considering ways to track and reduce energy consumption by residential and commercial users, according to the Portland Press Herald.
The story says that the city is considering whether disclosure of use should be voluntary or mandatory. Two things are happening in tandem: The City Council last week referred an ordinance with reporting requirements for some structures to the city’s Energy and Sustainability Committee. A public meeting on the subject will be held on July 20.
At the same time, the story says that the Greater Portland Council of Governments is advocating that Portland become a 2030 District. This national organization advocates energy reduction steps that would result in cutting energy use by half by 2030.
Last month, Energy Manager Today discussed the Energy 2030 program with Anna J. Siefken, the Vice President of Strategic Engagement and Pittsburgh 2030 District Director.
