Pitkin County (CO) Looks for Solar Opportunities

by | May 2, 2016

solarPitkin County, Colorado, is looking for places to put solar panels, according to the Aspen Daily News.

The story says that Sunsense Solar identified three venues: Near a county building, in a remote location tied to the grid and on community installations . The survey was partially funded Community Office for Resource Efficiency (CORE) and was presented to the county commissioners last week.

The study said that about 80 kWh to 90 kWh of solar energy at public works and fleet buildings would offset 100 percent to 120 percent of use from the facility. At the materials recovery facility, 102 kWh would be needed to cover 120 percent of usage.

In March, Pitkin County approved a $500,000 allocation that will enable the Renewable Energy Mitigation Program (REMP) to outfit affordable housing rental units with energy efficiency features.
