The Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport in Atlanta is the first in the United States to earn ISO 50001:2011 certification, according to AECOM. The certification is awarded for creating a “systematic framework to manage energy performance and drive continual improvement.”
AECOM worked with the Department of Aviation (DOA) and Asset Management and Sustainability (AMS) to ensure that the project met the ISO requirements for the energy management system (EnMS). AECOM’s work included work on policies, procedures, processes and documentation of roles and responsibilities. AECOM and AMS worked on a number of elements of the project, including creation of an implementation action plan and oversight and coaching.
Last September, the airport was awarded $45,901 by Georgia Power for LED upgrades to thousands of taxiway fixtures on the north and south runways. The installations were made in 2014.
