district school bus Energy ManageThe Hidalgo (Texas) school board will use a $1.5 million loan to deploy energy-efficient lights, programmable thermostats and new air conditioning at district schools, according to KGBT.

The story says that state Comptroller Glen Hegar visited the district to announce the loan. The district will borrow money through the State Energy Conservation Office’s LoanSTAR program and repay it from savings from lower electricity bills. The term of the loan is ten years.

The Oskaloosa (Iowa) School District has replaced florescent lights with LEDs, and is getting the help of MidAmerican Energy to do it. The story at Oskaloosa News says that the utility will refund as much as 80 percent of the cost of the lighting. The district therefore has gotten a rebate of $72,365, which was the maximum possible.
