The Public Service Commission (PSC) of the District of Columbia has formally “sunsetted” its Retail Competition Working Group (RCWG), effective December 17 (Order No. 18065).
The Retail Competition Working Group was formed in 1999 with the mandate to make recommendations to the commission on the steps required to implement retail competition in the District of Columbia. In 2002, the commission directed the RCWG to continue monitoring the technical feasibility of implementing deregulation. Additionally, in 2007, the PSC directed the RCWG to file annual reports on consolidated billing issued by competitive electricity suppliers. The group’s most recent report was filed on December 1.
“While the RCWG has provided the Commission and the public valuable information regarding these matters over the years, we believe it is time to sunset the RCWG, effective with the date of this order,” the commission commented on December 17. “No further reports are required.”
“We sincerely appreciate the RCWG’s efforts over these many years. The information provided has [given] valuable guidance to the commission in the implementation of competition in the District’s retail electricity market. Any further action that the Commission will undertake regarding matters assigned to the RCWG will be addressed in subsequent commission orders, as needed,” the PSC said.
