Philips NA Moving to 100% Renewables

Philips North America said that it will use 100 percent renewable energy resources by the end of next year. That, according to the company, is a step towards its goal of being carbon neutral by 2020, which was announced at COP21. Philips will work with EDP Renewables North America and buy 250,000 mWh of electricity during the next 15 years form the Hidalgo Wind Farm in McCook, TX.

The move will offset parent company Royal Philips global carbon footprint by 8.6 percent. The company already uses a 2 MW wind turbine at its lighting facility in Fall River, MA and a solar farm at its Andover, MA campus.

At Climate Week NYC in September, Royal Philips announced a partnership with The Climate Group and called for all cities and utilities to switch to LED lights by 2025.
