Iberdrola Generation Mexico has ordered two General Electric 6F.01 gas turbines for cogeneration plants in Mexico, according to Smarter Analyst. The plants are located in Altamira and San Juan Del Rio, which are in the states of Tamaulipas and Querétaro, respectively.
Combined, the plants will generate about 100 MW, which would power about 500,000 homes. The 6F.01 turbine originally was called the 6C. It has been on the market since 2005. During the past four years, the turbines have logged more than 110,000 hours of operation with a 99.2 percent rating, the story said. Both plants are expected to become operation in 2017.
Grandview Research says that cogeneration – also known as combined heat and power (CHP) – was valued at $6.25 billion last year and is growing.
