CPV Ltd., a company based in the United Kingdom, has introduced what it terms a “next generation” district heating pipe system, according to Cogeneration & On-Site Power Production.
The Hiline GRE system includes a service pipe that is encased in a layer of bonded polyurethane foam and a protective outer casing, according to the story. This design optimizes reliability and improves thermal efficiency, the company claims. The approach is said to reduce the risk of corrosion that is present no matter how well a steel pipe system is maintained. The story said that the system is appropriate for operating temperatures as high as 120 degrees centigrade at 10 bar.
Sun & Wind Energy in Freiburg, Germany, will use a district heating system to supplement a solar thermal system that will serve about 500 new residential units housing approximately 1,300 people.
