The Carneys Point Generating Plant, a cogeneration facility, has followed a court order to fulfill the terms of a community benefits agreement and pay the Carneys Point Township $2.5 million, according to NJ.com.
The township’s attorney said that the plant was withholding payment until the agreement, which had been in place since 1991, was renegotiated. On Dec. 15, Judge Anne McDonnell granted a preliminary injunction that required the $2,497,560 to be paid ten days before the end of the year. The court will look at the matter further, the story said. The money has been transferred to the township on Dec. 21.
The Massachusetts Institute of Technology said last week that it is upgrading its current cogeneration infrastructure and expanding the use of the technology. The 21 MW platform current in use will be replaced. The university has committed to reducing its greenhouse gas emissions by 32 percent by 2030.
