Solar Projects Advance in Indiana

Five solar energy projects are underway in the Muncie, IN, area, according to Farmers’ Advance.

The number and nature of the projects suggest how common solar installations are becoming. The site says that work is or soon will be underway at the Youth Opportunity Center, the Kennedy Library, an ecoREHAB house in the old West End, a Unitarian Universalist church and a AME Church

The projects are varied. The library, the Unitarian church and ecoREHAB received a total of $88,250 in  Solar Uniting Neighbors (SUN) grants. EcoREHAB, which is associated with the city and Ball State University, is installing eight panels of 21 square-feet on a home it is rehabbing. The library has a grant of $30,000, which will pay off about one-third of an $88,000 project in which 80 panels will be placed atop a 10-car solar carport.

Elsewhere in Indiana, First Solar and Indiana Michigan Power broke ground this week on a 2.6 MW solar project in Mishawaka. It is the first of three plants First Solar is building for Indiana Michigan, which is a unit of American Electric Power.
