San Luis Obispo County in California has approved a large retrofit.
The multiple simultaneous projects are collectively are the largest energy retrofit ever approved by the county’s board of supervisors. The county will enable work with Pacific Gas & Electric on two energy efficiency initiatives that will facilitate eight conservation measures to be undertaken in county-owned facilities.
The story at edhat.com says that the goal is to reduce consumption levels by 20 percent from 2006 levels by 2020 and greenhouse gas emissions community-wide by 15 by the same year. The expectations is that the project will result in $258,246 in energy savings and $76,227 in operational and maintenance savings. The cost of the projects is $4.5 million.
Municipal projects are being pushed by the $5 million Georgetown University Energy Prize. The winners, according to THonline, will be selected by virtue of their two-year efforts to reduce energy use, increase partnerships and start initiatives. The site says that Dubuque, IA, is one of 52 semifinalists.
