General Electric has launched GE Renewable Energy, according to Fuel Fix.
The new business is related to GE’s $10.6 billion acquisition of Alstom’s power and grid business, which closed earlier this month. The story says that the new business unit will focus on wind power and turbine manufacturing.
The unit, which will be led by Jérôme Pécresse, means that GE now has a wind footprint of more than 30,000 turbines and an expanded presence in Europe and Latin America. GE, by virtue of the acquisition, has made its first move into the offshore wind business.
PennPower, offered more detail on the offshore initiative. It says that it will feature Haliade technology and has a “significant backlog of orders with EDF in France.” It also will work on the Merkur project in Germany and the Block Island project in the United States.
