The Town Council of Derry, NH, have unanimously approved a LED project that may save the town $75,000 per year, according to The Union Leader.
The project, which will retrofit Derry’s 930 streetlights with LEDs, will cost about $280,000 after a $50,000 rebate from the utility, Eversource. The initial pilot project last spring retrofit about 36 lights in the downtown area that used 175 watt bulbs.
On the other coast, work has begun on changing out old lights for LEDs in Everett. The 101 watt LEDs are replacing 250 watt sodium lamps. The savings are expected to be $2.6 million during the next twenty year, according to HeraldNet. In addition, the new lamps will produce purer white light.
The city owns about 2,500 street lights, which is about one-third of Everett’s total. The others are owned by the Snohomish County Public Utility District. They will be replaced as well, but over time. The county is starting with smaller municipalities, the story says.
