The Benefits of On-Site Energy Generation

by | Sep 8, 2015

British flagGab Barbaro, the Managing Director of British Gas Business, makes the case for the benefits of on-site energy generation at Energy Live News.  From his perspective in the U.K., Barbaro said that such an approach can reduce the cost of energy overall — including both the capital and operational sides of the equation. Price volatility is curbed by a reduction reliance on the grid. Operational efficiency likely is improved and such an approach can facilitate greener operations by making renewables more attractive. If considered when a facility is being planned, on-site energy can enable a substation to be struck from the plan.

Barbaro suggests  being open to a variety of options and exploring Energy Performance Contracts that are designed to reduce consumption.

On-site energy is seen as a hedge against cost and volatility and the gateway to a variety of advantages. Indeed, two on-site turbines were installed earlier this year in the Eiffel Tower. The UGE VisionAIR5 wind turbines will produce 10,000 kWh of electricity annually.
