The Enterprise (AL) Board of Education last week passed an updated five year capital plan. The state of Alabama requests the updates annually, according to the Southeast Sun.
In 2016, new heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems will be upgraded in the Dauphin Junior High School. That project, which will include replacement of all air conditioners, will cost $100,000.
Projects set for 2017 include electrical upgrades to various system schools for $500,000.
In 2018, HVAC upgrades at various schools are budgeted for $100,000. In 2020—the last year of the five-year budget – HVAC upgrades and the replacement of the outside air handler at the Rucker Boulevard Elementary School will be undertaken. The budget for the jobs is $50,000. Another energy-related project in 2020 will be the replacement of windows at schools in the system. It is budgeted for $300,000.
Significant savings are possible in educational settings. For instance, the Hannibal, MO school system recently passed the $1 million mark in savings since a conservation program was instituted in April, 2011. The total savings – including reduced costs, rebates, refunds, tariffs and other sources – was $1,000,052 as of July, according to The Hannibal Courier Post.
