Army Base Looks to Cut Energy Consumption By Half

The Army’s Joint Systems Manufacturing Center (JSMC) in Lima, Ohio, is the near the bottom of the list of Army bases in terms of energy usage, according to www.LimaOhio.com

General Dynamics Land Systems, which runs the base, has applied to participate in an upgrade program offered by the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers. The program – called an Energy Savings Performance Contract – could cut energy consumption by half.

This week, the center hosted about 10 energy services companies to study the situation in anticipating of submitting a proposal. The project will carry no cost to the Army or General Dynamics. The upgrades are made for free. They are paid for over time with the ongoing savings.

JSMC is the first government-owned, contractor-operated facility to participate in the program.

The Corp of Engineers in June selected Siemens Government Technologies for a similar energy savings performance contract (ESPC) for ongoing design, construction and operation work on a variety of government projects.
