PHG Energy will build a biomass gasification plant for Sevier Solid Waste in Pigeon Forge, TN. The facility will be capable of cleanly converting more than 30 tons of composted material into thermal energy daily. At the same time, it will produce valuable high-carbon biochar.
Sevier Solid Waste is a garbage composting plant serving Sevierville, Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge and the Great Smokey Mountains National Park. Sixty percent of the material processed is made into compost.
This will be the second installation of PHG Energy’s Large Frame gasifier, which company officials believe to be the largest downdraft unit in the world. It is capable of processing more than 60 tons of material daily.
Early this year, PHG acquired the intellectual property and a municipal gasification plant in the bankruptcy of MaxWest Environment Systems. At the time, PHG said that MaxWest had made investments in technology to cleanly dispose of biosolids through gasification.
