Waste Recycling Plants Enhance Fire Safety with FAAST

Honeywell FAASTA growing number of recycling and waste management plants are using Honeywell’s Fire Alarm Aspiration Sensing Technology (FAAST) smoke detector, the company says.

The system design removes both dust-stimulated false alarms and problems arising from environmental fluctuation.

FAAST uses a three-stage filtration technique, dual-optics particle analysis and intelligent algorithms that distinguish smoke from dust. The company says the device can withstand temperature and humidity variations, auto-learning its environment.

Tim Checketts, business development manager for Honeywell fire safety, says high dust prevalence and environmental fluctuations cause increased false alarms, which lead to unplanned downtimes — at least 30 minutes unplanned downtime and resources to investigate per event — and increase maintenance needs. Using FAAST will reduce waste management plants’ total cost of fire safety, Checketts says.
