CDEnviroWaste reduction and recycling equipment manufacturer CDEnviro says its sludge screening technologies are improving operational efficiencies for the UK pharmaceutical industry.

The company says its S:MAX more efficiently separates solid waste material from liquids, minimizing waste and maximizing the opportunity for material reuse.

The S:MAX removes rag from sludge, either imported or indigenous, and removes the requirement for holding tanks or buffering while requiring a minimum level of operator intervention, the company says.

For pharmaceutical companies in particular, the S:MAX technology effectively provides a reduction in the waste materials being sent the centrifuge and also in turn prolongs the life of centrifuges due to the sometimes harsh nature of the waste material.

This wet screening technology has also aided pharmaceutical companies in completely avoiding blocked pumpsets as it eradicates the need for them to pump hard material within their pipeworks. CDEnviro says this feature alone has generated a substantial level of cost savings for companies by not having to replace pipework and internals of pumpsets in the future and also protects decanters.

The S:MAX not only deals with substantial volumes of hazardous pharmaceutical waste but also incorporates features that accommodate odor control and can withstand harsh material. Additionally, given the scale in which pharmaceutical companies operate in, the sludge screening technology from CDEnviro allows for processes to be streamlined and efficiencies to be maintained at all stages in the waste management process.
