Mt. Washington Observatory in North Conway, NH, installed backup power from Eaton in the event of power being knocked out from harsh conditions, including wind gusts in excess of 100 MPH, direct lightning strikes and heavy winter snowstorms.
To avoid downtime to its IT equipment and protect against data loss, the observatory is using Eaton 9355 uninterruptible power system (UPS) for backup power with scalable runtimes. The UPS also features preventive maintenance twice a year and an eight-hour response time in the event of a critical alarm.
Eaton’s power backup also helps the observatory predict future power events such as the batteries or capacitors going bad as well as smaller failures like a fan or circuit board.
The UPS is paired with Eaton’s eNotify Remote Monitoring software. Eaton’s Environmental Monitoring Probe also allows the observatory to monitor the conditions in its network closet, including ambient temperature and humidity, for added reliability.
