Constellation’s Water, Energy Projects to Save County $4.2M

by | Jun 20, 2014

Constellation will construct $2.4 million in water and energy conservation measures at the Montgomery County Courthouse in Montgomery County, Pa., guaranteed to provide about $4.2 million in cost savings through the county’s 20-year energy performance contract with Constellation.

Montgomery County expects to see a complete return on its investment in less than 12 years.

By implementing water and energy conservation measures, Montgomery County expects to conserve an estimated 3 million gallons of water and avoid the creation of 2 million metric tons of carbon dioxide annually over the 20-year contract term.

The conservation measures installed by Constellation include: building automation controls upgrades; low-flow toilets and faucets; duct sealing and cleaning; chilled water system optimization; building envelopment improvements such as caulking and weather stripping; and energy-efficient exterior lighting.

Work is scheduled for completion by the end of the year.

Constellation’s commercial and industrial customers reduced their CO2 emissions by about 75,432 metric tons over two years through the energy company’s Efficiency Made Easy (EME) program, the company said last year.
