EDF Climate Corps Announces China Debut

by | May 22, 2014

EDF logoEnvironmental Defense Fund‘s Climate Corps energy efficiency fellowship has announced its expansion to China.

The innovative fellowship program places energy problem-solvers from the nation’s top graduate programs into businesses, cities and other organizations in the US and now China, to save energy, reduce emissions and cut costs.

This summer, EDF will place 117 Climate Corps fellows in 102 host organizations. Five hosts are multinational companies with facilities in China: Apple, Walmart, McDonald’s, Cummins and Legrand.

In its seventh year, EDF Climate Corps’ collaboration with more than 250 private and public sector organizations is aiding its efforts to demonstrate the environmental and financial benefits of efficient energy management to business leaders, politicians and environmental advocates. EDF Climate Corps is quickly helping to close the gap on resources and information needed to limit energy waste and advance low-carbon energy solutions and is delivering results:

· Some 5 percent of the public and private sector organizations that President Obama recently praised for their energy-efficiency commitments are EDF Climate Corps participants

· EDF Climate Corps has uncovered more than $1 billion in total energy savings for participating organizations

· Environmental Defense Fund and its Climate Corps program are among few NGOs in China working to uncover market-based solutions to reduce its severe greenhouse gas emissions

· Two-thirds of this year’s EDF Climate Corps fellows will work to reduce commercial building emissions within the nine US states that together consume more than half of the nation’s energy

In January, EDF announced its 2014 partner organizations. New host organizations including Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Dow Chemical Company and Jackson Family Wines join veteran participants like AT&T, Shorenstein Properties, PepsiCo, Caesars Entertainment and McDonald’s in this year’s program.
