Standards & Compliance: Certified EnMS Practitioners, RoHS, R2, EPD

ANSI has accredited the Institute for Energy Management Professionals’ Certified Practitioner in Energy Management Systems Industrial sector certification program (CP EnMS – Industrial) to the International Standard ANSI/ISO/IEC 17024. The CP EnMS – Industrial standard is available to internal staff at industrial facilities, as well as consultants, who work to establish or maintain energy management systems compliant with ISO 50001 and ANSI MSE 50021 Superior Energy Performance.

The EU has issued 14 new exemptions for category 8 and 9 products, added to Annex IV of the RoHS directive, Environ’s Mike Kirschner writes for TTI. The exemptions include cadmium in phosphor coatings in X-ray image intensifiers, lead acetate markers used in some CT and MRI parts and other medical equipment, lead in solder on printed circuit boards, and hexavalent chromium used in X-ray image intensifiers.

The Verified Carbon Standard announced the approval of the VCS Methodology for Wetland Creation, which VCS says will allow project developers to both sequester carbon and expand natural flood protection for millions of residents of the US Gulf Coast.

ASTM has proposed withdrawing ASTM D5050-08, Standard Guide for Commercial Use of Lime Kiln Dusts and Portland Cement Kiln Dusts. The standard is being balloted for withdrawal with no replacement because of a lack of member interest or expertise required to update and maintain the standard.

ASTM is proposing revisions to ASTM D1253, Standard Test Method for Residual Chlorine in Water. This test method covers the determination of residual chlorine in water by direct amperometric titration.

ASTM is proposing revisions to ASTM D6273, Standard Test Methods for Natural Gas Odor Intensity.

Over 500 recycling facilities in 14 countries are now certified to the R2 standard. A growing number are certified to R2:2013, and over the next year, all currently certified facilities will need to update their certification to the new standard.

CeraTech has released an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) for Ekkomaxx cement concrete, the first EPD completed for a non-portland bulk cement. Release of the third-party validated EPD follows guidelines set forth by the Carbon Leadership Forum’s North America Product Category Rules. Independent verification was conducted by the Athena Sustainable Materials Institute under the National Ready Mixed Concrete Association’s Program Operator Rules.

Great Lakes Biodiesel has received BQ-9000 Producer status from the National Biodiesel Accreditation Commission. BQ-9000 is a voluntary quality-assurance program administered by the National Biodiesel Board.

Floor and ceiling manufacturer Armstrong World Industries earned an e-Stewards Enterprise designation. The company has committed to using e-Stewards certified electronics recyclers where possible.
