SCS Global Services has released the final version of the Responsible Source Standard for Chip, Pellets and Manufactured Fibers. The standard applies to synthetic polymers, such as nylon and polyester, used by the textile industry for apparel, upholstery, carpet, geotextiles, and other applications. It specifies that materials must be at least 85 percent recycled or certified as environmentally preferable based on a life-cycle assessment, among other environmental and labor issues.
In 2013, the European Chemicals Agency concluded 928 REACH compliance checks and found dossiers did not comply with information requirements in 61 percent of cases, according to the agency’s annual evaluation report. ECHA forwarded 32 non-compliant cases to national enforcement authorities for their action. The report gives specific recommendations for both future registrants for the 2018 deadline and existing registrants who may need to update their dossiers.
The International Electrotechnical Commission has approved the OpenADR 2.0b Profile Specification on open automated demand response as a Publicly Available Specification (PAS) IEC/PAS 62746-10-1, to be the basis for an as-yet undeveloped commission standard, Renew Grid reports. The OpenADR Alliance says the specification is designed for devices that support most demand response services and markets, and includes flexible reporting capabilities.

Close to 75 percent of participants said ISO 14001 had “high” or “very high” value for meeting legal requirements and improving their organizations’ environmental performance, according to a survey by the technical committee responsible for revising the standard. Assurance provider LRQA reported the results. More than half of those surveyed said the standard has “high” or “very high” value for business management, most notably for meeting stakeholder requirements, improving public image, achieving strategic objectives, and integrating with business management systems.
The IEC has published IEC 61970-453:2014, Energy Management System Application Program Interface – Part 453: Diagram Layout Profile. In this latest edition, the SVG elements and its data model have been replaced by the Diagram Layout Package.
The IEC has published 61936-1:2010+A1:2014, a standard governing power installations exceeding 1 kV a.c. The standard provides common rules for the design and the erection of electrical power installations with nominal frequency up to and including 60 Hz, including industrial, agricultural and commercial systems.
An Ohio resolution urging state government to stop public building projects’ use of LEED has passed the senate’s Energy and Natural Resources Committee, and will now be heard by the full senate. Republicans Joe Uecker and Tim Schaffer introduced Ohio Concurrent Senate Resolution 25 last year, Columbus Business First reports.
