Leahy-IFP’s Space Saver bag-in-a-box beverage packaging uses 50 percent less energy during production, generates 22 percent less post-consumer solid waste and 7 percent less process greenhouse gases, compared to 64-oz. plastic bottles, the company says.
For its sustainable packaging attributes, along with its convenient design, the 5-liter, shelf-stable Space Saver, designed for the foodservice industry and retail/club store space, has won Beverage Industry magazine’s Best Package Design 2013.
Space Saver’s patent-pending package has a custom designed inner bag, reinforced outer box and low-profile fridge footprint. The private label format accommodates ready-to-drink juices, teas and other beverages.
Last week, brewery group Carlsberg and some of its global suppliers teamed up to develop certified sustainable packaging materials that can be recycled or reused, minimizing packaging waste.
