Northrop Grumman Meets GHG Goal Two Years Early

Northrop Grumman Corporation today said it has achieved its greenhouse gas reduction goal of 25 percent in three years, two years ahead of plan. In 2012, the global defense and security company realized a 25.3 percent GHG intensity reduction from its 2008 baseline, resulting in a 26.9 percent absolute emissions reduction.

The company says it reduced its emissions though its greeNG environmental sustainability program. The primary drivers include facilities, engineering and manufacturing efficiency projects, a comprehensive green information technology strategy and real estate portfolio optimization, as well as renewable energy and ecosystem conservation.

The company last year received the Climate Registry’s 2012 Cool Planet Award in the aerospace and defense sector for its greeNG program, which has a budget of $47 million.

Northrop Grumman has also been named by the Carbon Disclosure Project to the Carbon Performance Leadership Index. According to the CDP’s latest rankings, Northrop Grumman received an A grade for its carbon performance, up from a C in 2011.

In May Northrop Grumman’s Europe-based air traffic management systems subsidiary, Northrop Grumman Park Air Systems, received ISO 14001 environmental management system accreditation from Lloyd’s Register Quality Assurance. The company’s facility near Peterborough, UK uses a rainwater harvesting system as its primary water source for operations, and has adopted a zero waste to landfill program.
