Sporting goods retailer City Sports says it expects to save more than $300,000 in energy costs over the next three years by implementing a World Energy Solutions energy management plan. The plan includes auction-based procurement, energy efficiency measures and utility incentives.
The energy management services firm has already helped City Sports procure electricity for 13 of its stores in four states, as well as the east coast retailer’s Boston headquarters. City Sports is paying 2 cents per kWh less than it was on its prior contract. This cost reduction will yield approximately $240,000 in savings over the next three years, according to World Energy.
Additionally, new energy efficient measures including lighting retrofits at seven of City Sports’ Massachusetts and New York facilities are expected to produce an additional $35,000 per year in energy savings. World Energy helped City Sports secure utility incentives and on-bill financing to fund these lighting projects.
Earlier this year, World Energy helped the U.S. General Services Administration cut energy expenditure at federal facilities by almost 40 percent, when it and engineering firm SAIC assisted the G.S.A. in buying more than 220 million kWh of electricity for 60 of its New England facilities and other federal accounts through a series of reverse online auctions.
World Energy is also an NSTAR Direct Install contractor, which means it is approved by the Massachusetts-based utility company to provide energy management systems, HVAC and variable frequency drives and to retro-commission throughout the NSTAR service territory. The utility pays as much as 70 percent of the total cost of qualifying lighting and mechanical retrofits.
