Google, Pepsi, MillerCoors Highlight World Water Day Initiatives

Google, Coca-Cola, Levi Strauss and other major companies used videos, environmental alliances and unwashed jeans to highlight their commitment to the environment on World Water Day, which took place yesterday.

PepsiCo released a video and used its blog to explain its position on water conservation. The blog calls water stewardship an “explicit” part of PepsiCo’s core business.

Coca-Cola released its fifth Global Water Stewardship and Replenish Report. The report reiterates progress announced in its recently released sustainability report, including a 16 percent improvement in its water use ratio. The drinks giant’s British arm has also announced a three-year partnership with WWF-UK to conserve Britain’s rivers. The two organizations will work in Norfolk and South London close to sites used for Coke ingredients and production, reports Click Green.

MillerCoors has released a video that highlights the importance of global water resources and the impact water has on businesses, the economy and the global population. In the video, a WWF representative calls the state of water in the world “worrying.”

Levi Strauss has asked employees to wear the same pair of jeans for five days in an attempt to highlight water conservation. A sponge (pictured) has been attached to participating employees’ jeans. If the jeans get washed the sponge expands, and the whole office knows who cheated.

Meanwhile, Google has partnered with The World Resources Institute to use its Google Earth tool to highlight the planet’s reefs that are at risk.
