Energy Management Software for Aflac, Alcatel-Lucent; Polaris 3D Lighting Software Upgrade

by | Dec 19, 2011

Supplemental insurance provider Aflac has chosen Hara‘s energy management and sustainability software, Hara said.

The insurance provider is looking to improve data accuracy for sustainability reporting and increase operational efficiencies, and Hara said that the company should expect more visibility, insight and verification capabilities with the software.

Aflac has implemented a SmartGreen philosophy covering buildings, procurement, purchasing and waste management. The company was listed this year for the first time on the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) North America for 2011/2012, and it has earned recognition with other environmental rankings, including the Green 15 in 2010.

Hara also said that communications technology company Alcatel-Lucent will use its energy management across 800 facilities, joining other Fortune 500 firms that use Hara, including Bloomberg, Dell, Diebold, eBay, HP, Hasbro, Intuit, News Corp., Safeway and U.S. Bank.

Alcatel-Lucent was named sector leader in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index, and was ranked fourth out of 800 companies by the Environmental Investment Organization for their annual Corporate Responsibility report and reporting to the Carbon Disclosure Project, Hara said.

Encelium’s Polaris 3D commercial building lighting control software has been updated, and existing customers can buy the new version at a discounted rate. Polaris 3D is a web-based control system that can be accessed from any web browser and integrate with other web-based building control systems.

It has a new color gradient 3D interface for the building’s lighting system data, such as lighting status and energy consumption, light levels, occupancy status, load shedding status, and comparative energy trends. The software adds drag-and-drop functionality to group floors, rooms or desks into zones, which are then controlled as a unit. The three dimensional view of a whole building or complex is an industry-first, Encelium said.
